Neighborhood Schools

The Board Is Listening

In the Fall of 2023 and the Winter of 2024, our district faced a long and difficult journey as schools were placed on the chopping block for potential closure. Our community’s voice was loud, clear, and impossible to ignore—our board heard it. The message was undeniable: our community demands that staff, administrators, and elected board members hit the brakes and take a deeper, more thoughtful look. In a powerful and unanimous decision, the board of directors chose to halt the consolidation process. But this decision comes with a critical condition: securing the funding necessary to keep our district afloat as we take the time needed to truly understand our enrollment challenges and craft a better path forward

We Must Slow Down

For the staff of PSD, our community, and the board of directors to take a breath and build a truly comprehensive plan, securing funding is not just important—it’s essential. Our district faces urgent needs: raising teacher pay, investing in our beloved neighborhood schools, and modernizing outdated facilities. At the same time, we must develop a more strategic approach to addressing declining enrollment. But make no mistake—none of this can happen unless we slow down with purpose, all while ensuring our students continue to receive the world-class education they deserve. The stakes are high, and our future depends on getting this right.

We Can Do Better

We can make this happen! Our community cherishes its neighborhood schools, knowing they’re more than just buildings—they’re the heart of where our children learn, grow, and thrive. We have the power to secure the funding needed to keep these schools alive and thriving. Every school is a treasure, offering something unique and irreplaceable. Let’s invest in our schools, our teachers, and our future—because we care deeply, and we know what’s at stake. Together, we can ensure these special places remain vibrant hubs of learning and community for generations to come!
